Key West’s Hottest New Hotel: Hemingway Inspired Havana Cabana

The Florida Keys hottest new hotel is located on the waterfront in the heart of Key West.

Inspired by local legend and author Ernest Hemingway, Havana Cabana, just swung open its doors on April 1. But it was no April Fools Day joke here. This is the real authentic deal and will have guests and locals alike feeling like they have been transported back to the pre-revolutionary days of Havana, Cuba.

Taking nostalgic influences from the art and culture of neighboring Cuba, the Havana Cabana is a lush escape from reality. Mid-century cars greet hotel guests as they arrive, birds of paradise punctuate the outdoor landscape, and the sweet sound of Flamenco guitar can be heard poolside. You can relax and unwind with a midday mojito or explore the town on a bicycle or vintage Vespa.

The 106-room hotel is centered around a poolscape (with a waterfall and the area’s largest freshwater pool pavilion) that also includes a Mojitos Pool Bar and Floridita Food Truck serving Cuban cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Adding to the atmosphere, a classic 1957 Chevy sits at the hotel entrance, while inside Spanish guitarists serenade guests with freshly baked Cuban pastries on hand, according to Miami.com.

“Key West’s history and natural beauty draw visitors from around the world, while Cuba’s mid-century heritage has captivated artists, writers and historians for generations,” said Mark Vose, Havana Cabana’s general manager to Miami.com. “The Havana Cabana concept celebrates the historic charm of our island neighbor to the south, while offering guests a chance to explore Key West’s authentic character. The result will be a guest experience that’s enchanting, surprising, and downright fun.”
