Winter In Key West: Don’t Miss These Events!

Winter is a fantastic time to visit Key West. While the rest of the country is in the grip of cold and snow, this vibrant island town is playing host to visitors from all over the world and some of the best events and festivals in the Keys.

November 2016

6th – 13th | 35th Annual Key West World Championship Races
Super Boat International runs the National Series Points races around the world from April through October. The series concludes in November with the famous Key West World Championships, known as the Indianapolis 500 of powerboat racing. As the powerboats race through the smooth waters of Key West Harbor, racers can reach speeds above 140 mph, providing a breathtaking spectacle for onlookers.

16th – 20th | Key West Film Festival
The Key West Film Festival brings together filmmakers, actors and fans to enjoy feature screenings and special social events throughout Key West, including the San Carlos Institute, Studios of Key West and Key West Theater. The event will feature several films from multiple genres and categories that exhibitexcellence in storytelling.

23rd – 27th | International Sand Art Competition
Held over Thanksgiving weekend at the Atlantic Ocean Beach at the Casa Marina Resort, 1500 Reynolds St., spectators can watch local and international sand sculptors construct extraordinary pieces of artwork from the ground up and compete in the International Sand Art Competition. The weekend also features other activities like movie night, people’s choice voting, amateur competitions, and more.

December 2016

10th – 18th | Key West Nutcracker
An island twist on the holiday classic descends on the Tennessee Williams Theatre each December as Clara and her Prince encounter enchanted landscapes complete with snowy egrets on shimmering salt ponds, a wicked Rooster-King, an exquisite Sea-Star Fairy, and “underwater” sequences. The Key West Nutcracker is a version you won’t want to miss!

31st | New Year’s Eve Shoe Drop Celebration
Watch a 6′ red stiletto carrying famed drag queen, Sushi, descend from the second story of the Bourbon Street Pub/New Orleans House complex on Duval Street at the stroke of midnight as part of the New Year’s Eve Shoe Drop Celebration. As the New Year begins, Sushi will pop open a bottle of champagne as the revelry continues.

January 2017

14th – 15th | 12th Annual Florida Keys Seafood Festival
When in Key West, seafood is a must! Enjoy the celebration of all things seafood at the family-friendly Florida Keys Seafood Festival featuring live music, kids’ activities, marine crafts, and…seafood! Festivities take place at Bayview Park, Truman Avenue and Jose Marti Drive.

25th – 29th | Key West Food & Wine Festival
Enjoy the local cuisine of the Keys at the Key West Food & Wine Festival as top chefs and restaurateurs host tastings, seminars, food and wine pairings, neighborhood wine strolls, and the lively “Duval Uncorked UnDone” event.

57th Annual Key West House & Garden Tours
Running from December through March, the annual Key West House & Garden Tours gives visitors an inside look at some of the most elegant and exquisite private homes on the island. Tours booked ahead of time are $30 per person and proceeds go to the Old Island Restoration Foundation to preserve and restore historically significant buildings.
